My family and I (we’re a family of 6, my husband and I, three boys, one girl) have made annual trips to Disney for about 10 years now. Every year until this year, we’ve stayed in hotels. Every year, we’d spend thousands on a pair of hotel rooms, not giving it a second thought because…

Hey, what choice do we have?

Well, this year money was a little tighter than usual. There was no way we were going to be able to afford to spend that kind of money on hotel rooms. In addition, we had to hire a rental van, PLUS the actual tickets, PLUS food. We didn’t want to break tradition though. I wouldn’t have been able to bear our kids asking why we weren’t going to Disney this year. We started asking around and searching online for hotel deals and affordable Disney vacation packages, and eventually discovered vacation homes.

Up to that point, I didn’t even know you could RENT a home. But I eventually found VillaDirect, and started to look into some of their vacation rentals. They had a big selection and I couldn’t really pick just one without help. So I decided to give them a call and just explain what I needed.

I told them I was on a tight budget and we didn’t want to spend over a certain amount for the week. In just a few minutes they found us a 4 bedroom home just 3 miles from Disney! They beat my budget by over $1000! Needless to say, I was surprised. The woman on the phone then asked if I had bought park tickets yet, and when I said no, she went on to tell me about their discounted ticket prices. She said I could even bundle them, AND a car rental, with our vacation package and make payments leading up to our stay. It was a dream come true. We were spending less than half of what we normally did on vacation, and we didn’t have to pay for everything up front.

When we arrived at their check-in office, everything was ready to go. We received our Disney tickets, key card and a welcome packet, and headed to the house. The home itself was fantastic. We had our own pool and spa, the kids had a game room to play in and we even had an extra bedroom. Not only were we not staying in a hotel, but we had MORE space than we needed. I was even able to cook a few meals at home and save a little more money. Not to mention, we didn’t have to share a bedroom with the kids, which was a welcome change for us.

For the kids, this year’s vacation was just like any other Disney trip. For my husband and I though, it was extra special, because we almost weren’t able to keep this family tradition alive.
